It all begins with having an idea for a painting. To remember it I immediately sketch and write down the thoughts in a little notebook. Then, I will let it rest for a while. This process goes on for weeks and sometimes for years. Meanwhile I add some notes and sketches for the composition.
When I finally have the guts to start the painting, the first thing I have to do is make a good drawing composition. And for that I need the right photo’s/images of the figures and objects. I shoot the photo’s myself or get it elsewhere.
In this final drawing I add, erase and adjust as much as necessary to define the composition. This is the composition from which I start painting with and to transfer onto the gessoed linen.
